SPH Media is Singapore’s largest omnichannel media network, delivering trusted journalism and lifestyle content across print, digital, radio and outdoor platforms. As part of our Technology team, you will gain hands-on experience supporting enterprise-level database operations and automation initiatives that power our newsroom and backend systems.
Key Responsibilities
As an Enterprise Database Intern, you will:
- Develop and refine automation scripts using Python and Shell to streamline daily DBA tasks and Control-M operations.
- Support job flow migration, testing and validation across environments, including assisting in porting Control-M jobs to open-source scheduling tools such as JS7.
- Work with senior DBAs to design automation frameworks for routine maintenance activities (backups, patching, performance checks).
- Participate in environment audits and help collect performance metrics across MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases.
- Prepare documentation, user guides, and SOPs for newly developed automation processes.
- Assist in implementing best practices for version control, job scheduling, and monitoring.
Requirements
- Good knowledge of Python and Linux shell scripting (bash/sh/ksh).
- Familiarity with enterprise schedulers (Control-M, cron, or similar) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL.
- Strong analytical mindset, eagerness to learn enterprise tools, and good communication/documentation skills.
