Overview
This internship offers a deep dive into the world of hard drive technology and the engineering systems that support it. You’ll work alongside specialists who analyze mechanical performance, interpret large data sets, and help refine the components that make modern storage devices reliable and efficient. It’s an opportunity to explore how mechanical engineering, materials science, and data analytics intersect in real-world product development.
What You'll Get Out of This Internship
Hands-on exposure to the inner workings of HDD architecture and recording technologies.
Experience working directly with engineers on measurement, testing, and performance analysis.
Opportunities to handle complex datasets, apply statistical thinking, and identify patterns that support engineering decisions.
A chance to collaborate across disciplines including reliability, materials science, and mechanical design.
Practical experience presenting technical findings and summarizing insights for teams.
Key Responsibilities
Support engineering tests by running measurements, collecting data, and helping evaluate drive performance.
Conduct analytical investigations using large datasets to identify trends or possible causes of product issues.
Assist with setup and execution of automated test routines using scripting tools.
Contribute to integration experiments and help document outcomes for internal reviews.
Prepare summaries, visualizations, or reports used by engineering stakeholders.
Requirements
Currently studying Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Basic understanding of data interpretation, signal behavior, or sensor-based measurements.
Familiarity with scripting or computational tools such as Python or MATLAB.
Comfortable working with structured datasets; interest in statistics or experimental design is a plus.
Organized, self-driven, and able to communicate clearly in a technical environment.
Awareness of standard lab or testing equipment is helpful but not necessary.
Proficient with general productivity tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Who This Internship Is Ideal For
This role is best for students who enjoy analytical work and want a technical challenge involving both hardware and data. It suits individuals curious about how physical systems are measured, how experiments are designed, and how data science supports engineering decisions.
