Overview
ByteDance is offering a 2026 internship with its Traffic Infrastructure Global Engineering (TIGE) – Traffic Platform team. The team builds and operates multi-cloud, large-scale network services to optimize traffic for TikTok and ByteDance internal applications. This internship offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with high-scale network systems, distributed computing, and cloud-based services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop features for traffic software, including DNS servers, L4/L7 proxies, Web caching, and FaaS runtime, processing terabyte-scale data in real-time
- Build data pipelines and telemetry systems for data-driven traffic control
- Develop API acceleration and other networking services on a multi-cloud traffic platform
- Conduct problem solving and performance tuning for online traffic
- Research and implement new technologies to improve traffic processing efficiency and scalability
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Undergraduate or postgraduate student in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
- Experience in developing network systems using Rust, C, C++, and/or Go in a Linux environment
- Familiarity with network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS)
- Understanding of microservice architecture
- Familiarity with container and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Preferred:
- Experience building large-scale network services on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, OCI)
- Knowledge in high-performance network load balancers, proxy software (e.g., Nginx, Envoy), system programming, Web caching (Apache Traffic Server, Varnish)
- Experience in edge computing, FaaS runtime development, distributed/cloud service management
- Proficiency in modern networking protocols (HTTP/2, HTTP/3/QUIC, TLS1.3)
